Counselling and Psychotherapy are often considered to be interchangeable therapies that overlap in a number of ways. The key difference between the two courses of therapeutic communication treatment lies in the recommended time required to see benefits. Counselling usually refers to a brief treatment that centres around behaviour patterns. Psychotherapy focuses on working with clients for a longer-term and draws from insight into emotional problems and difficulties. Generally a practitioner offering short-term treatment is known as a counsellor. An individual with two or more years of training will opt to be known as a psychotherapist. Psychology is the study of the mind - personality, mental processes, functions of the brain and behaviour. It is a discipline deeply imbedded in science, research and practice.

We deal with personal, social, vocational, and educational concerns. Clients are usually considered to be in the “normal” range of functioning and just have some adjustment, developmental or situation concerns. Therapy takes place in a serene, comfortable and safe setting. It is a therapeutic process in which clients learn to make better decisions and formulate new ways of behaving, feeling and thinking. Therapy is seen as a partnership between therapist and client. Both you and your therapist contribute to the healing process. You're not expected to do the work of recovery all by yourself, but your therapist can’t do it all for you either. Therapy should feel like a collaboration.We don’t limit ourselves to one specific type of therapy, instead we blend different types of therapies in order to best fit the situation at hand. This can offer many powerful tools that can be utilised during therapy. Every therapist is different, but there are usually some similarities to how therapy is structured. Normally, sessions will last about an hour and times/days for treatment can be agreed upon between the client, and therapist. Everyone’s treatment is different. How long therapy lasts depends on many factors. You may have complicated issues, or a relatively straightforward problem that you want to address. Some therapy treatment types are short term, while others may be longer. Therapy is conducted in the therapist’s office. Painful memories, frustrations or feelings might surface. This is a normal part of therapy and we will guide you through this process. Be sure to communicate with us, about how you are feeling. We aim to provide you with a safe, comfortable, understanding, empathetic, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment. The beginning of a new therapeutic alliance is a time for mutual connection, a time for the therapist to get to know you and you to get to know your therapist. It’s also a good idea to talk to the therapist about what you hope to achieve in therapy. Together, you can set goals and benchmarks that you can use to measure your progress along the way.

The client is not under the control of the hypnotherapist because hypnosis is not something that is imposed on people. The Hypnotherapist merely serves as a facilitator or teacher helping the client discover that hypnosis is a natural, safe and useful state of mind they can allow themselves to experience. Modern hypnotherapy is often referred to as a co-active, or collaborative approach. The hypnotherapist assists the client to discover their own inner resources and path to well-being. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy." A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement. It works in conjunction with all other medical, psychological or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. Sand play is a therapeutic tool, utilised in a counselling session, to bring forth underlining issues that may be inhibiting a child or an adult to go about their normal day-to-day life. This is achieved by using miniature representational objects to tell their story. Sand play can also bring up issues that have been suppressed deep in one’s subconscious and forgotten, due to trauma. Therapist and client explore the issues/problems at hand, and together they work towards a solution. Sand play embraces the clients past, present and future.
